What is Non-Medical Private Duty Home Care?
In todays healthcare world, there are so many terms that can lead to confusion. Non-medical, private duty care means that we provide assistance with tasks that are considered non-medical. Please note, providing personal care, such as help with bathroom needs and showering is considered non-medical and something we are happy to help with. Tasks that are considered medical that we are unable to perform are duties such as cutting finger and toenails, preparing medications and/or putting our fingers in pill bottles. We are also unable to perform any tasks that you would want a medical professional, such as an RN, to perform. If you are in need of skilled nursing, you are encourage to contact Visiting Nurse and Hospice of Litchfield County, where they can provide skilled nursing, including physical therapy, occupational therapy and more. - We complete a background check, drug test, and reference check for all employees, and all are personally interviewed by the Director to ensure the correct placement is made when we pick up a client. We perform random drug tests throughout their employment, as well.
- All aides are required to take an 8-hour new hire training to ensure that they know our expectations and policies. Six of these hours are courses geared specifically to in-home caregiving including but not limited to OSHA/Bloodborne Pathogen standards, how to work with a client with a specific diagnosis, general caregiving tips, and more.
- All aides are our employees, and we pay them directly and we issue them a W2 at the end of the year.
- We offer a flat, competitive hourly fee that includes full protection to the client.
- We cover aides’ liability insurance, workers comp, and they are bonded and insured. This means it’s full protection to the client (no one coming after them for medical bills if injured on the job/time off).
- While we cannot offer guaranteed coverage, in the event of a caregiver call out, we have a roster of 70+ aides to contact before speaking to the family directly. In the event that we have exhausted our options and the client requires coverage, we do offer a guaranteed coverage program, however, the client would be looking at overtime rates (all employees over 40 hours are paid time and a half, hence, why we have to bill it)
- After-hours on-call support: when the client calls, they will not get a third-party answering service, but rather a direct call to a SVNA Home Assistance office staff who is familiar with the client/their specific situation.
